Continuing the Conversation

     Welcome to the Virtual Conversation

There are so many extraordinary events happening in classrooms daily. We wish families could be there for it all, but recognize this is impossible. A blog can be the Virtual Conversation, allowing educators to share it all with families and colleagues. An extra bonus is the opportunity to archive the years in one convenient place.

Announcements
After a long day at school and work, families spend just a few hours together completing household chores, homework, meal preparation and eating. A quick glance at the classroom blog immediately informs a busy household of assignments, special events or important reminders. Parents always feel involved and informed of their child's day and expectations.

Requests
A teacher should never feel alone in children's skill development process. Families that are updated often and held accountable are encouraged to actively participate in educating their son or daughter beyond the classroom. Through a well-developed online forum, lesson reviews at home can be communicated through shared links, suggestions, and explanations. Parents can feel confident supporting learning uniquely and may offer expertise in a particular area.

Celebrations
Too often, families only hear from teachers when problems arise. The best events of the day go unnoticed or unannounced and families are left unsure about their child's successes. Instead of being buried in only standards and schedules, a blog can highlight quick morning routines, proud smiles following a project or an unpredictable lesson. It offers parents a window into the classroom and an opportunity to stay aware.

Research
Decisions made within the classroom are based on research and collaboration. Parents should have a voice in that conversation, understanding the process and reasoning for instruction. Sharing articles and studies that contribute to the programs being used in the classroom is a brilliant reminder to families - We rely on you. We need you and we hear you.

My mind is flooded with all the topics in education and thought a blog may help getting the information out to our clients.  As an elementary/special education teacher, Literacy Specialist, and mama of 4 young children, I never stop learning!  My students are always my teachers.
